House of Delegates convenes at Isle of Palms
The Bar’s House of Delegates met May 24, 2018 at Isle of Palms.
The House heard remarks from President Dawes Cooke and Immediate Past President Babs Warner, and the following award winners were recognized: Megan Dell (Pro Bono Lawyer of the Year), Murphy & Grantland, PA (Pro Bono Law Firm of the Year), Gary Lemel and Nathan Sheldon (Law Related Education Lawyers of the Year), Lyndey Bryant (Young Lawyer of the Year) and Brian Autry (Mentor of the Year).
The House approved recommendations to:
• support U.S. Senate Bill 2282, the Bankruptcy Venue Reform Act, designed to rebalance where commercial Chapter 11 bankruptcy cases are commenced; and
• amend Rule 1.0 and the comments to 1.1 and 1.6 of the SC Rules of Professional Conduct to reflect advances in technology and their impact on the practice of law. The proposed rule changes will be forwarded to the Court.
The House approved Bar and CLE Division budgets for 2018-19. Under the consent agenda, the House approved amendments to the Dispute Resolution Section bylaws. Daryl Hawkins (Region 2) and Carrington Wingard (Region 3) were elected to the Nominating Committee. The House received a report from the Bar Foundation.
